Welcome to 510medic.com! If you like what you see, please click one of the links in the “follow me” section on the right side of your screen. I maintain a presence on the various social media sites and am always interested in new ways to collaborate with other EMS practitioners.
I have been working in EMS for 10 years, with the last 6 as a paramedic. I work in Alameda County, CA, arguably one of the busiest systems in the country and certainly one of the most progressive in California. I currently work as a clinical coordinator and have held positions as paramedic preceptor, FTO and paramedic lab instructor. I also volunteer as a flight paramedic.
My goal for this blog is to bring cutting edge medical research to the EMS community. While there is plenty of EMS-specific research, there is even greater effort behind in-hospital research. Much of this information can be condensed and applied to those of us in EMS.
Given that EMS is a relatively new field in comparison to medicine as a whole, we have a golden opportunity to shape the future decades of our profession. Whether we continue to have expanding scopes of practice and are allowed to treat patients more aggressively and with greater independence depends heavily on how much we work to turn EMS into an integral part of the continuum of care. This blog is my effort to improve the practice of as many EMTs and paramedics as possible to help ensure that EMS continues to grow.
