Oakland Fire Department to Offer Free Rehab Training

Posted by Patrick Lickiss on Sep 28, 2011 in Current Events, General | 0 comments

Our friends and co-workers over at the Oakland Fire Department are putting on an upcoming training for EMTs and Paramedics entitled Firefighter Rehabilition and Medical Monitoring.  The course is based on the NFPA 1584 standard and is offered free of charge.  The three hour training provides attendees with the knowledge needed to set up rehabilitation services on the fireground.  Oakland Fire Lieutenant Brian Oftedal encourage EMS professionals to take the class stating “they are most likely to be involved in medical monitoring [during a fire]“.

As any of you who have worked a hazardous materials or structure fire response know, monitoring vital signs, weight, fluid intake and taking note of any abnormal symptoms are extremely important tasks.  The ability to properly rehabilitate operational personnel is a critical part of reducing line of duty injuries and deaths.

The course is offered on three different dates from 0900 to 1200:

  • Monday October 3rd
  • Tuesday October 4th
  • Wednesday October 5th

The class takes place at the Oakland Fire Department Training Division at 250 Victory Court in Oakland.
